How to remove sensitive or other parts of customer data?

In certain situations, your business may need to remove or overwrite sensitive customer data without deleting the entire customer record in Custobar. To address this, Custobar provides a flexible option to scrub specific properties from the customer data, ensuring enhanced privacy protection of customer information and giving you peace of mind.

Before making any changes to your customer data, please get in touch with support@custobar.com. We are here to assist you in ensuring you do not delete more data than intended.

Example use case: A customer of yours requires the removal of all phone numbers from their dataset for privacy reasons. However, it is important to note that when you remove a phone number from the customer profile, the old values, in this case, old phone numbers, of these properties can still appear in the customer's revision history and timeline. You want to remove the customer's phone number altogether.

One-time overwriting sensitive customer data in a data import

Example use case: You have a known list of customers whose sensitive customer data, for example, data you are not allowed to store anymore, you want to overwrite just once.

You can use Custobar's data import feature to make a one-time overwrite of customer data. When you mark the import as a privacy update, as shown in the picture below, the update will overwrite all the fields included in the data import for all the customers included in the import.

One-time overwriting sensitive customer data as a bulk update

Example use case: You know certain attributes of customers whose sensitive customer data you need to update, and you can find them in Custobar audience search. You want to overwire the sensitive customer data, for example, phone number, just once.

You can use Custobar's bulk update feature to make a one-time overwrite of customer data for an entire audience of customers. When you mark the bulk as a privacy update, as shown in the picture below, the update will overwrite all the fields included in the bulk update for all the customers included in the audience.

Automate overwriting sensitive customer data

Example use case: Your company can legally store sensitive “data X” about your customers for five years. After that, you must remove the data from the customer's profile. All other data must stay intact. You want the removal of “data X” to happen automatically every day.

Periodic tasks is a feature that allows you to automate regular data updates. Whether you need to remove inactive customers, anonymise sales data after a specific period, or eliminate sensitive fields from your data, our Periodic Data Update feature has you covered.

It's possible to flag the periodic data updates as privacy updates, which will, in turn, overwrite the customers' history. Please contact support@custobar.com to start benefiting from any periodical data updates - we'd love to help keep your data in tip-top shape!
